Course Title

Advanced Sound Design and Studio Production Techniques

Department(s)

Description

In this advanced workshop students learn audio mixing, mastering and recording-studio skills. They use ProTools to take their mixing and mastering of their audio pieces to a professional level using equalization, compression and other plugins. Students are encouraged to get creative with sound design as they explore delays, reverb, pitch-shifting and experimental audio processing. They receive hands-on experience behind the board in the recording studio, including working with ISDN and phone hybrid lines, setting up in-studio interviews, producing live shows and operating the mixing console. This 5-week module culminates with students assisting in studio during one of the live-to-tape Audio News Magazine: Audiofiles shows or leading sound design and mixing on a narrative podcast episode or audio documentary.
